FAQs

Q?

Who oversees the work of the James Connection?

A.

The Holiday Park Church of Christ in the United States and several churches in Manipur, India collaborated to begin the James Connection. However, we are receiving help from many different people and churches and we are asking for help from anyone who would like to help the orphaned children of India.

Q?

Who runs the James Connection?

A.

A Board of Directors in the USA.  The by-laws authorizes seven directors, of which five presently serve.  The Executive Director is Jan C. Swensen.  In addition, there are five committee chairs directing the work.   The directors and committee chairs are all volunteers.

In India, R. Sanga, from Imphal, Manipur, India supervises the operations.  He is a preacher for several congregations, Executive Director for the Imphal School of Preaching, a banker and a community leader.  The trustees are also all volunteers.  Angels' Place, the orphanage owned and operated by the James Connection, has a paid staff of 18, two of whom are parttime.

Q?

Why help children in India?

A.

The children in India need help immediately and urgently. An emergency exists there. The people of India have no resources to help their orphaned children.  They need the basics; shelter, food, clothing, guidance, education and emotional support. Angels’ Place provides all of this plus the love of Christianity.

The American dollar is very strong in India.  For instance, we can feed, clothe, house and educate a child in India for a little more than two dollars a day.

The parable of The Good Samaritan teaches us that every one of these children is our neighbor even if he or she lives half way around the world.  The world shrinks more every day. Christianity is making its greatest strides in Asia and Africa. Non-Christians see charitable work such as Angels’ Place. Christians are setting examples for the rest of the world by their charitable works in places such as India.

Q?

How can I be sure my donation will be spent wisely?

A.

The people in the United States are all volunteers and have pledged to make sure that the money will all be spent for the children and for incidental expenses. In India, we have been blessed by a group of volunteers who have demonstrated their ability in the past. They have performed every project well and have completed it exactly on time.   Approximately 95% of the donations we receive go to India for care of the orphans.  Only 5% is spent on expenses, mostly postage and money transfer fees.

Q?

What kind of medical care do the children at Angels' Place receive?

A.

They receive routine medical care including a physical examination upon admission and regular physical examinations and dental care on an annual basis.
